The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a violent attack that claimed the lives of 75 persons.
The directive was disclosed in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, and dated February 5, 2026.
According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force strongly condemned the attack, which occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, describing it as a tragic incident that has left families and communities in deep mourning. The Inspector-General of Police extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Kwara State.
The statement said the IGP reassured Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, stressing that all necessary measures would be taken to guarantee the safety and security of citizens.
In response to the incident, the Inspector-General ordered the immediate deployment of additional security assets to Kaiama and adjoining communities to restore calm, strengthen security presence, and prevent further acts of violence.
The Nigeria Police Force has also launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators and all individuals linked to the attack. Investigations are ongoing, with all available resources mobilised to ensure that those responsible are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted.
The Force urged members of the public to remain calm and to support security operations by providing timely and credible information through the nearest police station or established police communication channels.
The statement reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to maintain peace, law, and order across the country and assured that the perpetrators would not evade justice.
