A total of 1,392 Corps Members made up of 721 Male and 671 Female have been sworn in at the Ebonyi state NYSC permanent orientation camp, old MacGregor College Afikpo, Afikpo council area of Ebonyi state for the 2024 Batch C stream 2 service year.
In a colour ceremony attended by people from all walks of life, the Ebonyi state Governor, Rt . Honourable Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, Chief Honourable Ugo Idike stated that the People’s Charter of Needs mantra of his administration will always give everyone including the Corps Members the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the state.
According to him, their predecessors did things with which they wrote their names in the hearts of the people and therefore should aspire to surpass their records and make their stay in the state rewarding.
He noted that the government will continue to discharge its statutory roles in the provision of adequate security to the Corps Members as well as the welfare needs of the people promising to continue its policy of rewarding excellence.
The governor expressed optimism that the Corps Members will live up to the dreams of the founding fathers of the Scheme while foreseeing a hitch – free orientation exercise.
In his address, the Chairman NYSC State Governing Board and the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Ugo Idike represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Hilary Ogbonna congratulated the Corps Members and wished them well during the camping period.
He thanked the Governor for the enabling environment for the Corps Members to excel as well as the Collaborating agencies for releasing their members to assist NYSC in the execution of the orientation course exercise.
In her earlier welcome speech, the Ebonyi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Oladeinde Foluke informed the gathering that a total of 1,392 Corps Members were registered to commence their one year service in the state.
She advised them to obey the rules and regulations governing the regimented nature of the Camp and applauded their resolve to adapt easily.
Mrs Oladeinde stressed that the camping exercise is to prepare them roundly for the task ahead and enjoined them to make good use of the opportunity to bring out the best from themselves.
The State Coordinator appreciated the Governor for coming to the AIDS of the NYSC, more especially the recent donation of a Hilux Van informing the governor that the NYSC camp needs holistic attention as there is no electricity in the camp.
The Oath was administered on the Corps Members by the representative of the Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Nicholas Nwode.
