President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), leading to the exit of two ministers and fresh appointments in key portfolios.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on April 21, 2026.

According to the statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, will leave the cabinet.

Mr. Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been elevated from Minister of State to assume the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

In the housing sector, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and designated to head the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State pending confirmation of the new appointee.

The statement indicated that all handover processes are to be completed on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026.

Explaining the decision, Akume said the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as improving economic delivery in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

President Tinubu also commended the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would continue.
