Ahead of the much-anticipated Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, primaries, a prominent party stalwart from Eziachi/Amike ward, in Orlu Local Government Area, Imo State, and frontline Orlu Senatorial zone aspirant, Hon. Uche Ben Odunzeh, has formally declared his readiness to contest by purchasing his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms amid growing support from party faithful and stakeholders.

The development, which has generated excitement across political circles, is seen as a major step in the buildup to the party’s internal electoral process, with many constituents describing Odunzeh’s entrance into the race as timely and strategic.

Speaking after purchasing the forms from the national secretariat before the NDC Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, Odunzeh said his decision to formally join the contest was motivated by his desire to offer purposeful leadership, strengthen party unity, and champion policies that would promote sustainable development and inclusive governance.

According to him, the call to serve came from widespread consultations with party leaders, youths, women groups, elders, and supporters across various wards and constituencies who urged him to step forward and contribute his experience toward advancing the vision and aspirations of the party.

He maintained that the NDC remains a strong platform for democratic participation and people-oriented leadership, stressing that the forthcoming primaries should be conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and credible manner that would further deepen internal democracy within the party.

Odunzeh assured delegates and supporters that his ambition is driven by service, commitment, and a sincere passion to improve the welfare of the people, adding that he remains fully prepared for the task ahead.

“This is not just about personal ambition; it is about collective progress, unity, and the future of our people. After wide consultations and encouragement from stakeholders, I have decided to answer the call to serve. I am fully ready for the journey ahead and committed to ensuring that our party emerges stronger and more united after the primaries,” he stated.

He further emphasized the importance of issue-based campaigns and called on fellow aspirants and supporters to avoid politics of bitterness, division, and character assassination throughout the exercise.

According to him, the strength of the party lies in its unity and ability to accommodate diverse opinions while working toward a shared vision of growth and development.
“Our focus must remain on ideas, solutions, and the collective interest of the people. We must conduct ourselves peacefully and responsibly because, at the end of the day, the success of the party is more important than individual interests,” he added.

Hon Odunzeh seized the opportunity to advocate for support to Mr Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s Presidential ambition. He explained that the duo symbolizes everything good for Nigeria.

Several supporters who spoke during the event described Odunzeh as a tested and trusted leader with the experience, humility, and grassroots connection needed to reposition the party and deliver quality representation for the people of Orlu zone.

A party chieftain present at the occasion noted that Odunzeh’s decision to contest has further energized the political landscape ahead of the primaries, adding that many party members see him as a unifying figure capable of fostering cooperation and progress within the party structure.

For many supporters, Odunzeh’s declaration and formal acquisition of the nomination forms represent not only the beginning of a political journey but also a renewed hope for visionary leadership, inclusiveness, and development-driven representation within the party.
