Joining the league of persons and organizations that have commended Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for his decision to increase the state’s minimum wage to N104,000, eminent businessman and politician, Citizen Akirika Okoro, has described the motive as humane.

Governor Uzodimma had few days ago announced the wage increase during a meeting with leaders of labour unions at Government House, Owerri. He raised it from N70,000 to N104,000, while doctors’ salaries rose from N215,000 to N 503,000, and those of tertiary institution lecturers from N119,000 N222,000, among others.

Citizen Akirika Okoro described the move as humane and will improve the relationship between workers and Government. In his words, the global businessman and politician said, “this is a humane move, and it is expected to yield some results, as when a worker is paid well, he puts in his best in his work by increasing his productivity, which grows the economy of the state. With this new minimum wage, lateness to work and absenteeism will be reduced”.

Citizen Akirika Okoro continued, “Governor Uzodimma has done something that is very commendable, and if my record is right, Imo State has been made one of the highest-paying states in the country. I am therefore suggesting that Government should set up a Committee to monitor workers who are fond of coming to work late, and those of them that absent from work, without cogent reason, and ensure they are adequately punished”.
