The Orlu branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, yesterday boycotted court sittings following the gruesome murder of their colleague, Chinedu Nwowu, on Wednesday by unknown gun men.
The unfortunate incident had caused pandemonium in the area.
The legal practitioner was reportedly killed in the evening in his hometown after he was double-crossed by his assailants.
The incident led to the closure of courts in Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma areas of the state.
An eye-witness account said that some gun-trotting men forcefully blocked the victim’s vehicle who was driving and shot him dead.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s colleagues had announced an emergency meeting of the members following the incident.
In a memo issued by Chukwuemeka Okoro, on behalf of the branch, notified that the emergency meeting would start at 10:00AM at High Court in Mgbidi.
The statement reads “Following the gruesome murder of one of us, Chinedu Nwowu last night in his hometown, Mgbidi, all lawyers of Oru/Oguta Forum are hereby notified of a crucial emergency meeting this morning by 10:00AM at the High Court, Mgbidi.
“The Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma High Courts will not sit today. Please, be punctual.”
The NBA branch chairman, Ben Amukamara, informed that the members were meeting at the Mgbidi High Court yesterday morning following the killing.
He said that no court in Oguta, Mgbidi and Omumma axis in the state would sit.
The spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Henry Okoye, was yet to respond to an inquiry about the killing at press time.
