. Calls on Uzodimma, others to look into facility

A non-governmental organization that delights in serving humanity; EdithNwosu Healthcare Foundation founded by Chief Hon. Amb. Edith Nwosu, popularly addressed as Ikukuoma Nwangele, has held a free medical outreach for 400 inmates at the Correctional Services in Owerri Imo State, capital.
The outreach which took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025 had team of medical Practitioners; Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Laboratory technicians join the foundation in making sure the event was a success.
The inmates had their Vitals; BP, and pulses, checked by the nurses, the lab attendants checked their sugar level, and conducted malaria test, and other tests on them. They had consultations with the doctors, and were given drugs by the pharmacists.
Speaking, Amb. Nwosu, who is also the founder of Ikuku Oma Empowerment Club, and former Imo House of Assembly candidate for Nwangele LGA, under the platform of Labour Party, noted that it is her passion to impact lives and put smiles on people’s faces that endeared her into setting up the foundation.
Nwosu whose foundation has empowered over 4000 patients medically, since it’s inception from 2017, pointed out that she was moved with compassion to embark on the outreach when people were telling her how prison inmates are not properly catered for, especially medically.
” A lot of prison inmates I gathered lack health care, so I am here to do what I call Stop-Gap-Mechanism, which is to avail them with this basic medical checks. No matter how small it is, I always feel the need to reach out to the people, as it makes me happy and gives me a sense of satisfaction.
“This was why I was looking for a political platform to aid me sustain this, as I have been doing it with my personal funds. But even though I did not succeed with that, I am still going to continue impacting lives as it is what I love doing, ‘Nwosu averred’.
She therefore called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to as a matter of urgency visit the correctional service, saying that she learnt that since he became the governor of the state, that he has not visited there.
Nwosu who is also the Managing Director of Sherwood Nigeria Limited further beckoned on other well to do citizens of the state to key into such humanitarian service of visiting the center to ascertain areas they can assist the inmates to come out from there as better individuals.
Adding her voice, the lead doctor and a Resident Obstetrics and Gynaecologist, Dr. Ifeoma Micheal asserted that she picked interest to join the Ikukuoma founder on such voluntary service seeing her dedication to aid humanity.
Misheal commended her and urged her to keep up the good work.
She further expressed joy that they embarked on such outreach, saying that they discovered that some of the inmates had malaria, typhoid, skin infections, urinary tract infection, peptic ulcer, among others, which they had given them drugs for.
Some of the inmates; Eze Obinna, and Chibuzo Peter who were diagnosed of having malaria cold and typhoid, and had received their drugs thanked the Ikukuoma foundation for the kind gesture and prayed that God will bless them for that.
The Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of Owerri Medium Security Center (MSC), Elder Udoka Prince Nwokoma Chinaka, Ph.D, who expressed profound joy over their visit, saying that even though it is the job of the government to cater for the inmates, that it should not be left for them to handle only.
Chinaka stated that they carefully selected out of the 1374 inmates people that really needed the medical attention since they had a limited slot.
He therefore joined the organizers of the outreach in calling on bouyants Imo people to emulate what the foundation is doing and see a way they can help the inmates.
The Superintendent of Corrections for the arm squard session, Njoku Samuel Chikadibia, and the Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Nwakuche Anthony, also took turns in applauding the foundation, urging them not to relent the good work.
