A prominent and well established son of Ubomiri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State Chief Polly Ubah, who resides in New Jersey, United States of America (USA), on Wednesday January 1st, 2025, received an Award of Excellence, as he was honoured with Philanthropic cum Humanitarian Services Award by the Imo Newspaper Editors/Columnists Forum.
He received the Award at the Ubah family compound, where all Ubah family members organized a Re-Union ceremony and held a birthday anniversary celebration for their eldest brother Chief Ethelbert Ubah. The birthday celebration and Re-union event were attended by virtually all the relatives, sons, daughters and many friends of the Ubahs.
Speaking before handing over the Award to Chief Sir Polly Ubah, the Secretary of the body, Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Onyekachi, stated that the Forum conducted a serious background check on Chief Polly Ubah before chosing him for the Award, adding that their illustrious son truly merited the Award in all dimensions.
Onyekachi maintained that the Award to the recipient, Chief Polly Ubah, by their group, Imo Newspaper Editors and Columnists Forum, was purely on merit without any financial inducement, stressing that it was due to Polly’s great humanitarian contributions to the society that fetched him an approval for the honour.
The Secretary equally maintained that in the whole of Imo State, it was only two person’s that had previously obtained the Award which is an indication of its great value. The two persons earlier in possession of the said award, according to him, are the MD of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, Dr.Kingsley Chigbu, and the President of Igbo Association of Town Unions, Chief Emeka Diwe.
He stated that the Award presented to Chief Polly Ubah should motivate people to borrow a leaf from him in the area of helping humanity and society.
Responding after receiving the Award, Chief Polly Ubah thanked the group for finding him worthy to receive such a prestigious Award, maintaining that it would spur him to continue to do more.
He commended journalists for their journalistic contributions to the betterment of the society.
On the birthday celebration of Polly Ubah’s eldest brother, Chief Ethelbert Ubah, and the Ubah”s family Re-Union event, the Award recipient referred the day as a special day in the life of every member of Ubah’s family, maintaining that their eldest brother was conditionally made to take the responsibility of leadership of the family because of the experience of death in the family.
Polly asserted that all the members of Ubah’s family choose to celebrate Ethelbert’s birthday in order to encourage him to go on with life, irrespective of the deaths encountered in the family at various times. He advised Chief Ethelbert not to feel discouraged as the oldest man of the family while carrying out
his avowed responsibilities therein.
The event was graced by many important personalities, including the Traditional Ruler of Ishi-Ubomiri Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Emmanuel St George Ekeh, the Ubo 1 of Ishi-Ubomiri.
