The Director News and Current Affairs Imo Broadcasting Corporation IBC Owerri,Sir Reginald Mbajunwa will retire from service on Thursday, September 10,2026.
IBC management will hold a live retirement program on radio 94.5FM on that day from 8.30am to 10am.
Sir Reginald joined IBC Owerri on November 19,1992 at the age of 26years.
As a young Editor/Reporter,he was very vibrant and energetic.He carried out all the challenging assignments of IBC creditably.He started as an editor producing FROM THE NIGERIAN PRESS on A M radio, WHAT THE PAPERS SAY on FM radio, TODAY IN THE PRESS on television and weekend FROM THE MAGAZINES for the two radio stations.
In 1993,he was redeployed to Central Reporting Division that made him work in Government house Owerri where he covered late Governor Evan Enwerem, Colonel Doyaro who ruled Imo state for 25 days before handing over to Navy Captain James Aneke .
In 1994,Sir Reginald Mbajunwa was posted to Umuahia as IBC Abia State correspondent.There he covered late Colonel Chinyere Ike Nwosu, Navy Captain Temi Ejoor, Colonel Moses Fasanya who were Military Administrators of Abia State.
When Ebonyi State was created in 1996,he covered the state as well.
Through his reports,he made the people of the state to always tune to IBC AM and FM radio stations to know what was happening in their state.
Sir Reginald was recalled to IBC headquarters in 1998 to head the Corporate Affairs division of the station.In that division,he took care of motherless babies and destitutes in Imo and Abia states.He introduced IBC Newsletter BROADWAVE and an audience participatory program TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN that help in solving the problems of the state.
In 2007,he was posted to Government House Owerri as Chief Correspondent during Governor Ikedi Ohakim .
In 2010,he was recalled and asked to produce a program FACTS FILE to highlight the landmark accomplishments of the state government.
With that program,Sir Reginald won the best TV producer in the state and the staff of the year.Thereafter he became the Head of Radio News Production division of the station.
In 2022,Sir Reginald Mbajunwa won the Governor Hope Uzodinma best documentary Journalist that was accompanied with One Million Naira.
He is a prolific writer and had written over seven hundred Newstalks which has been aired on IBC Owerri and in some local Newspapers.
His meritorious service in Imo Broadcasting Corporation Owerri lasted for 34 years.
Sir Reginald Mbajunwa attended National School Nkwerre from 1972 to 1978.
He was at Saint Augustine’s Grammar School Nkwerre from 1978-1983 where he obtained the West African Examination Council WAEC Ordinary level Certificate.He attended Government Secondary School Owerri from 1983 to 1985 where he obtained WAEC Advance level Certificate.Between 1987 and 1990,he was at University of Cross River State Uyo where he bagged BA Honours in Philosophy.He holds a Diploma in Journalism from Institute of Journalism IIJ Abuja and a Post Graduate Diploma PGDM in Management Sciences(Marketing) from University of Port Harcourt Rivers State.
Sir Reginald is a member Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, member Nigerian Institute of Public Relations NIPR and member Institute of Mass Communication and Information Management of Nigeria IMCIM.
Sir Reginald Mbajunwa is married to lady Alice Reginald – Mbajunwa and the marriage is blessed with children.
