The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF–NCCC) has held a one-day Cybercrime Awareness Campaign in Abuja as part of efforts to promote online safety and strengthen digital resilience across the country.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the event brought together more than 3,000 participants from schools, government institutions, private organizations, and digital platforms. The campaign aimed to educate Nigerians on identifying and preventing cyber threats while encouraging responsible digital practices.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Sadiq Abubakar, reiterated the Force’s commitment to ensuring a safer digital environment for all citizens.

The Director of the NPF–NCCC, CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to partners and stakeholders for their support. He emphasized that tackling cybercrime requires a collective effort, noting that “today’s digital era demands that all Nigerians are not just users but also guardians of their own cybersecurity.”

Henry added that the campaign forms part of the Centre’s mandate to build public awareness and resilience against online threats, with plans to expand cyber education, strengthen reporting mechanisms, and enhance enforcement capacity.

Activities during the campaign included an awareness walk, distribution of sensitization materials, and a musical performance to engage participants in an interactive and memorable way.

The Police said the initiative reflects its continued dedication to protecting Nigeria’s digital space and empowering citizens to “Stay Smart, Stay Safe Online.”
