The energy in Imo’s tech scene was palpable on the 17th of July as Startup South founder, Mr. Uche Aniche, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Chimezie Amadi, Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, in what turned out to be a robust conversation about innovation, policy, and regional collaboration.
The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to deepening the South-East and South-South tech ecosystems. Dr. Amadi emphasized that Imo State is not only open to new ideas but is actively encouraging homegrown startups, digital creators, and solution-builders to engage directly with government.
“We’re creating a digital economy that is powered by our people, by ideas grown on our soil and relevant to our realities.
Imo is ready to work with innovators across sectors—healthcare, education, agriculture, to develop real solutions and scale them.” the Commissioner stated.
As a sign of growing partnership, Mr. Aniche officially announced that Imo State will host two pre-event summits and an exclusive investors’ roundtable ahead of the upcoming Startup South Conference in October.
He presented Dr. Amadi with the official conference jersey, a symbolic gesture representing the alignment between Startup South’s mission and Imo’s digital vision.
“Receiving this jersey means a lot,” Dr. Amadi remarked. “It’s a reminder that we’re part of something bigger a collective regional movement toward digital prosperity.”
The delegation also pledged support in co-developing tech policies and building stronger structures to support startups across the state.
Dr. Amadi urged local founders and techpreneurs to stay tuned for details on the forthcoming events, noting that, this is not just another conference but a platform for investment, visibility, and impact.
As the meeting wrapped up, one message stood clear: the regions digital future is not coming from outside, it is best built from within.
