… Calls for palliative work on some Okigwe roads, township Stadium in LGA

The Member Representing Okigwe State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Samuel Ogbunikpa has commended Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, and other members of the House, for recalling him and other suspended lawmakers to the house.
Ogbunikpa in the same vein, called the Governor to as a matter of urgency direct the Ministry of Works and other relevant agencies to carry out palliative work as a temporary measure on the Okigwe Urban roads, especially the Ike road, Umuchima road, Ubaha road, Opara road, Elezuo street, Eze street, among others, before the rainy season sets in and pending when it further considered for complete rehabilitation.
He also urged the Governor to further as a matter of urgency rehabilitate the Okigwe Township Stadium so as to bring back social life to the people of Okigwe, as football matches can be played in the LGA once again.
The Okigwe legislator stated this on Tuesday, during the House plenary.
Speaking, the lawmakers firstly commended the Governor of the state, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Chike Olemgbe, other legislators for recalling them to the House.
Talking about the road, pointed out, “His Excellency, Dist. Sen. (Dr.) Hope Uzodimma has graciously rehabilitated the major Okigwe-Owerri road which is the major road leading to Okigwe from Owerri, which had been abandoned by previous Imo State administrations.
“This Okigwe people are grateful to the governor for, but also wish to bring to his notice some roads and streets which include: lke road, Umuchima road, Ubaha road, Opara road, Elezuo street, Eze street, among others which have become impassable.
“Also, the only Stadium in Okigwe Town has been in a very bad state for a long time and need to be rehabilitated to continue serving it’s purpose, as it can be recalled that Heartland Football Club, at some point had hosted other football clubs at the Township Stadium and won most of their matches in that Stadium which brought Imo State in the lime light, both Nationally and Internationally.
“The Stadium now is in a deplorable condition, and so cannot serve such purpose again,’Ogbunikpa decried.
He noted that for the aforementioned dilapidated roads, that his people are suffering and has beckoned on him to bring to the knowledge of the Governor their plight, as good network of roads, streets and stadium play vital role in the development of an area; economically, socially and politically.
Supporting the motion was the Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, Deputy Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Sam Osuji, Minority Leader; Rt. Hon. Princewill Amuchie, Deputy Minority Leader; Rt. Hon. Clinton Amadi, Members Representing – Mbaitoli; Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, Onuimo; Hon. James Esile, Ehime Mbano; Hon. Ben Ozoemena, and Ikeduru; Hon. Johnleoba Iheoha.
They all reiterated the economic importance of the road, and the stadium, and urged the governor for their speedily repairs.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe, put the motion to vote, and the Ayes had it.
He further directed the Clerk to convey their resolution to the Governor.
