Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University community was yesterday, Tuesday September 1, 2026, overwhelmed with ovation, heralding the formal arrival and official welcoming of the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Frances Ngozi Chukwukere, into the University campus at Ideato.
The auspicious reception began with a special courtesy visit at the Palace of the Clan Head of Umuma Ebemano, HRH Eze Gerald Achusim Ezeihekaibee of Umuma Isiaku Ancient Kingdom (EZEUKWU) who doubles as the Chairman Ideato North and South Council of Traditional Rulers where the Traditional 5 Royal Fathers representing fourteen (14) host communities pledged their support and blessed her.
On arrival at the University Campus, she was received with an ecumenical thanksgiving service loaded with special prayers for the new VC, her family, staff and students of the University. The service was held at the University’s Senate building.
The new VC’s inaugural address that reeled out her impressive six (6) point Action Plan further underscored her commitment to building a University of global ranking, got the excited audience comprising of the University staff, students and friends who graced the occasion with presence in an intermittent jubilations expressed with rhythmic claps and shouts of joy.
The new KOMU humble leader, Prof. F. N. Chukwukere announced Professor T.O.C. Ndubuizu, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, as the hero of the Day, having prophesied this day during her undergraduate years at University of Nigeria Nsukka, 40 years ago.
The scholarly Varsity Chief Executive, who thrilled her audience with an interesting and inspiring teaching pedagogy, assured the highly elated audience that she is poised to drive an administration that will foster unity, discipline, transparency and accountability while building strong town-and-gown relationships that will respect the sacred stool and authorities of the Royal Fathers especially the host communities traditional rulers (Ndi Eze).
The address wherein she expressed gratitude to the University Visitor and Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Hope Uzodimma CON for finding her worthy of the appointment as Vice Chancellor, KOMU. The event did not only mark the formal assumption of office by the University’s new Sheriff. It also represented a call to collective responsibility, inviting every stakeholder to participate in shaping the University’s future.
Her speech strongly revolved around the need for a significant transformation of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University KOMU Ideato, to greater heights which according to the admirable Amazon can only be achieved through a shared vision embraced by the entire University community.
Prof Chukwukere described her appointment as a shared opportunity to advance the University’s founding ideals, advocating that the period calls for collective reflection, recommitment and renewal that must be anchored on the university’s core values of integrity, excellence, team work, innovation and collaboration. She urged all stakeholders to pursue the core mandates of the University with renewed determination.
Indeed, many found hope, strength, revival and accomplishment in her speeches, presentations and disposition. Thumps up to the new Vice Chancellor, she made the day great!
