…Initiate discourse on Medical Training collaborations
Management of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, (KOMU) Ideato, Imo State, on June 17, 2026, visited Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Owerri as a courtesy call on the management of the Teaching Hospital, to discuss possible areas of exploration and partnership in the Medical field.
The Acting Vice Chancellor; DVC, Professor Jude Ogbulie, who led the KOMU team, in his speech said, the mandate of the tertiary institutions is to advance learning, expressing that barely two (2) years ago, the University established a Medical College as an expansion in its academic programmes.
Prof. Ogbulie, explained that the major reason for the visit was to seek and explore areas of collaboration with top grade Federal University Teaching Hospital in the State, which he described as very strategic and apt in the areas of training medical students.
He informed that Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU) is the 42nd State University and number 143rd in the list of all universities in Nigeria and owned by belongs to Imo State Government as a full public University.
In his response, the Chief Medical Director, of Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH) Owerri, Dr. Jideuma Ikenna Egwim, commended the management of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU) for establishing a Medical College, irrespective of the fact that the university is still young.
He, however assured of the Teaching Hospital’s support to ensure the vision of the Medical College is realised.
The CMD, Dr. Jideuma Egwim, enjoined the Chairman, FUTH Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Chimaobi Isiguzo, to arrange for meetings with the KOMU management, in order to workout areas of engagement and partnership with FUTH Owerri.
Dr. Egwim, in swift contribution disclosed that the Federal University Teaching Hospital, has specialists in virtually all areas of medicine and thanked the delegation for the visit.
