The Governing Council of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, has approved the appointment of Professor Simon Terver Ubwa as Director and Centre Leader of the Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER), effective May 14, 2026.

The appointment was announced in a statement dated June 8, 2026, and signed by the Directorate of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Office of the Vice-Chancellor. The statement indicated that the decision was ratified during the Governing Council’s 153rd Meeting held on May 13 and 14, 2026.

According to the statement, Professor Ubwa, an accomplished scholar and researcher, assumes leadership of the Centre at a time when the university is intensifying efforts to promote research, innovation and practical solutions to food-related challenges. The Governing Council expressed confidence in his ability to provide the leadership required to strengthen the Centre’s contribution to national development.

As Director/Centre Leader, Professor Ubwa will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the overall administration and management of CEFTER. His responsibilities include overseeing the Centre’s daily operations, coordinating programmes and activities, and ensuring the effective implementation of policies geared towards advancing research, innovation and capacity development in food technology.

The statement further noted that he will serve as an ex-officio member of all committees of the Centre and provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing its effectiveness. He will also chair the Management Committee and Technical Committee, overseeing research activities, technical operations and institutional collaborations.

CEFTER plays a key role in promoting scientific research, value addition, food processing technologies and sustainable food systems. University authorities expressed optimism that under Professor Ubwa’s leadership, the Centre would expand its impact through innovative research, strategic partnerships and programmes designed to address contemporary food security challenges.

The university community also congratulated Professor Ubwa on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure at the helm of the Centre.
