Prince Collins Enwere, popularly known as Aboego and a frontline candidate for the Imo State House of Assembly seat for Ngor Okpala State Constituency has called on the Imo State Government to urgently address the worsening condition of roads across the state, particularly in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.
In a statement made available to public by his media team, Prince Collins Enwere expressed concern over what he described as the neglect of several critical road projects that are vital to the economic and social well-being of rural communities.
He tasked the administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma to intervene and ensure that abandoned road projects are completed before the end of the current administration.
He also questioned the level of supervision of road projects by the state’s Commissioner for Works, Hon.Ralph Nwosu, noting that residents of the affected communities have continued to endure severe hardship as a result of poor road infrastructure.
According to Enwere, the 27-kilometre Ulakwo–Upe–Imerienwe–Umuekwune Road, which was earmarked for rehabilitation, has remained abandoned since 2022, leaving residents frustrated and limiting access to economic and social opportunities in the area.
The statement read in part: “When will the Commissioner for Works be seen inspecting the extent of work done on the 27-kilometre Ulakwo–Upe–Imerienwe–Umuekwune Road, which the ministry abandoned since 2022?
“It is becoming increasingly painful for the people of the five autonomous communities located along the road. The people are beginning to believe that there are no plans to return the contractor to site to complete the rehabilitation work before the end of the Hope Uzodinma administration.”
Enwere further called on Governor Uzodinma to direct immediate attention to other dilapidated roads in Ngor Okpala, especially the Nguru–Umuneke Road, which he described as having being in a deplorable condition, while causing untold hardship for residents, farmers, traders and commuters along that route.
He stressed that road infrastructure remains critical to economic growth, rural development and improved living standards, urging the state government to prioritise the completion of abandoned projects across Ngor Okpala and other parts of Imo State, and to also declare a state of emergency on all roads in Ngor Okpala,as the Local government mirrors the state nationally and internationally because of the Imo airport, which situate in the area. He stated.
The candidate maintained that addressing the road challenges facing the constituency would boost economic activities, improve access to healthcare and education, and enhance the quality of life of residents.
He called on the state government to act swiftly in response to the concerns of affected communities, expressing hope that urgent intervention would bring lasting relief to the people.
