The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, through its Directorate of Social Communications, has officially announced the 2026 edition of Communications Week, scheduled to hold from May 10 to May 17, 2026.
The week-long event, which is part of the Church’s annual focus on media, communication, and evangelization, will be held under the theme: “Preserving Human Voices and Faces.”
According to the programme released by the Directorate, daily reflections on the theme will take place from Monday, May 11 to Friday, May 15, 2026, on Ozisa 96.1 FM Owerri. The reflections are expected to address the growing influence of technology and the need to preserve authentic human interaction and identity in modern communication.
The grand finale of the celebration is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2026. Activities for the day will begin with a Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m. at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri.
A lecture and reflection on the Pope’s message for Communications Week will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Ozisa 96.1 FM Foyer. The lecture will be delivered by Fr. Professor Marcel Onyeocha, CMF, of Imo State University.
The event is being organized under the leadership of His Grace, Most Rev. Lucius I. Ugorji, Archbishop of Owerri, with Fr. Ray Nzefegbu serving as Director of Social Communications for the Archdiocese.
Communications Week is celebrated annually by the Catholic Church worldwide to promote responsible media practice, ethical communication, and the use of modern communication tools in spreading the Gospel and fostering human dignity.
