A former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has dismissed allegations that his recent political position is driven by desperation for power, maintaining that his support for Abia State Governor, Alex Chioma Otti, is based on principle and verifiable performance.
In a statement signed by Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah and made public on April 15, 2026, he described the claims circulating in sections of the media as unfounded and a misrepresentation of his intentions.
Ogah said it is neither improper nor unusual to support competent leadership across political divides, stressing that loyalty to values and relationships should not be sacrificed for partisan expectations.
He explained that his support for Governor Otti is anchored on personal conviction and a longstanding relationship built on mutual respect and trust, noting that standing by a leader delivering on his mandate reflects integrity rather than ambition.
The former minister also pointed to what he described as tangible progress in Abia State, including improvements in infrastructure, youth empowerment initiatives, and reforms in the civil service, such as better welfare and prompt payment of salaries.
He argued that governance should be assessed based on outcomes, adding that the developments being witnessed in the state are evident and impactful on residents.
Ogah further clarified that his stance does not amount to defection from the All Progressives Congress, reaffirming his continued membership and commitment to the party’s ideals.
He cautioned against what he termed attempts to mischaracterise principled political positions, warning that such narratives could undermine meaningful discourse and distract from efforts to advance development.
Calling for a more constructive political culture, Ogah urged stakeholders to prioritise performance, collaboration, and the welfare of the people above partisan considerations.
He reiterated his commitment to the progress of Abia State and Nigeria, stating that his support for good governance remains firm and guided solely by the collective interest of the people.
