The Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a couple allegedly involved in the trafficking and sale of prohibited hard drugs, as part of its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities in the state.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, and dated March 27, 2026, the Command disclosed that the suspects, Collins Iwunze, 51, and his wife, Onyinyechi Iwunze, 43, were apprehended during a targeted operation by the Surveillance Unit.

The statement noted that the arrest was carried out in the early hours of Friday at about 6:30 a.m. at Umunjoku Obiokwu, Amakohia-Ubi, in Owerri West Local Government Area, following credible intelligence linking the couple to the sale of illicit drugs in commercial quantities.

According to the police, a bag containing assorted illicit substances was recovered from the suspects’ residence during the operation.

The suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to ensure their prosecution in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, was quoted as commending the operatives for their efforts and reiterating the Command’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
