A former commissioner for Agriculture in Imo State, Chief Longers Anyanwu yesterday said the excellent ongoing renovation work on the Imo Concorde Hotel now New Hilton Concorde Hotel, when completed, is going to be the best brand hotel in West Africa.
He expressed the hope that with almost 95 per cent of its readiness, the facility will retain its traditional hospitality and tourism destination East of the Niger.
He maintained that ‘The return of “New Concorde Hotel Owerri” would mark the hallmark of return of Imo lost glory!
According to him, “With almost 95% readiness of the New Hilton Concorde Hotel to take off in Owerri, Imo State is already agog seeing the high pitched activities going on in and around the Concorde Hotel premises.’
Anyanwu who said he had the opportunity to look into the massive renovation work there said he was filled with the nostalgia of what the hotel used to be in the 1980s and 1990s.
‘With the combination of radical urban renewal projects embarked on in Owerri City by the world-class Governor Hope Uzodimma with his tradition penchant for quality project delivery Imo citizens and visitors trooping to Imo State in the coming Yuletide will have reason to rejoice and be happy. The creative enhancement of infrastructure in Imo State with renewed attention in New Owerri, the glory of Imo State has returned,’ he stated.
Chief Anyanwu, a former Imo State Coordinator for the Federal Government’s SURE-P Programme, called on the contractors handling the numerous ongoing rehabilitation of bad roads in the Owerri metropolis to put adequate safety precautions at their sites to prevent avoidable minor accidents and obstructions.
