Imo State Women have been urged to transform their annual August Meetings into a platform for conversation, advocacy, and action towards eliminating all forms of violence against women and children.
This call was made by Peace Dike, Executive Director of Virgin Heart Foundation (VHF), at the grand finale sensitization meetings with women of Aji Community in Oru West LGA, Ofekata 1 in Oru East LGA, and Amaisii Uvuru Women Group in Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State.
Dike and her team enlightened the women on the dangers and health implications of female genital mutilation (FGM), baby factory operations, child abuse, and sexual harassment of the girl-child. She emphasized the urgent need for women to report all forms of abuse to the appropriate authorities, particularly the rising cases of baby factories, illegal adoptions, and harmful widowhood practices.
The Women August Meeting must go beyond celebration; it must remain a strong platform where women push for inclusion, champion girl-child education, advocate for empowerment, and promote community development. Our united voices can eliminate the struggles women face daily in their communities. She stated.
The participating women pledged to stay committed in the fight against violence in all their communities and to champion positive causes for womens inclusion in leadership and decision-making spaces.
Virgin Heart Foundation is an organization committed to advancing womens rights, ending gender-based violence, and promoting education, empowerment, and development for women and children across Nigeria.
