The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, (TUC) Chairman Imo State Council, Comrade Ibe Great Uchenna has poured encomiums on His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma for increasing the salary of workers in the state.
Ibe who is also a member of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), asserted that it is quite commendable as it was just recently that the minimum wage of N70,000 was approved and then few months later, the governor came up with the increment to N104,000.
Hear him, “This increment wasn’t expected as it was few months ago that the N70,000 minimum wage was approved. There was no agitation or struggle by workers, the governor just invited the Labour Leadership in the state and made the pronouncement to our amazement.
“It is indeed a welcome development, especially in these trying times of harsh economic situation occasioned by the removal of the fuel subsidy, which was one of the reasons the governor gave for the wage increase.
“His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma has maintained a cordial relationship with the workers, and has done things like free bus services, clearing backlogs of promotion arrears, enrollment of all the civil servants in the Imo State Health Insurance scheme, clearing up to more than 20 years backlog of gratuity among others. All this shows that he has workers’ interest at heart, and now this sudden raise of the workers’ salaries in the state.
“I thank the Almighty God for what propelled His Excellency to make such move, and pray that GOD will continue to encourage, protect and guide him to ensure that the good plans he has mapped out for the people of the state are accomplished and sustained, ‘Ibe prayed.
