. Calls for Creation of new autonomous communities

In view of the motion moved by Hon. Okechukwu Udeze; the Member Representing Ideato North State Constituency, and House Committee Chairman on Local Government Area, Chieftaincy Affairs and Autonomous Communities, the Imo State House of Assembly has applauded Governor Hope Uzodimma for issuing Staff of Office to 63 new traditional rulers.
They noted that it is quite commendable as the people’s choice were upheld by the governor.
The Assembly as part of the prayer of the motion, also in the same vein urged the governor to look into the creation of new autonomous communities in other to ensure proper representation of the grassroot dwellers.
The motion which was presented by the Ideato North lawmaker on Wednesday during the House plenary, was co-sponsored by seven (7) other legislators.
Throwing more light on the motion, the Ideato North legislator averred that it is another milestone achieved by the governor as he presented the staff of office to deserving traditional rulers who where chosen by the people of their communities.
He stated that the people are elated for such move of the governor as he respected their choice of rulers.
The lawmaker who further expressed joy over the relationship of the Executive and legislative arm which he described as cordial, asserted that the governor has indicated confidence in the Imo State House of Assembly by upholding their recommendation as par traditional rulers who the communities selected for the office.
The Ideato North legislature who also in the same vein urged the governor to consider the creation of more autonomous communities, pointed out,”There is need for more autonomous communities to be created as most of the communities are large and cannot be handled by one king as the Chief Security Officer of their communities.
“When this done, it will aid curb insecurity as criminal activities will be cut off, and addressed.
“So I call on his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, to consider creating more of those communities as it will also make governace easier for him when the traditional rulers are there to look out for the people, ‘Udeze stated’.
Supporting the motion was the Majority Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, and Deputy Majority Leader, Rt. Hon. Sam Osuji
They commended Udeze for the motion, saying that the governor is worth applauding as he fulfilled the yearning of the people.
They reiterated the need for more autonomous communities to be established concurring with what the Ideato North lawmaker said as par some of the communities being too large for one Eze to preside over.
As there was no one against the motion, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe put it to vote, and the Ayes had it.
He also directed the Clerk to get across to the Governor the resolution of the House.
