The Imo State House of Assembly has called on Governor Uzodimma to convert Mgbidi Boys Secondary School, in Oru West Local Government Area of the state, to a higher Institution.

They further urged him to relocate the Mgbidi Boys Secondary School to another Community in the same Mgbidi.

The lawmakers made the call, after the motion was presented by the Member Representing Oru West State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Dominic Ezerioha, during the House plenary on Tuesday,

Speaking on the motion, the Oru West legislator averred that the number of university candidates from Imo State on yearly basis is numerous and as so, more Institutions are required in the state, to met such demand.

Ezerioha pointed out that he discovered that such higher institution of learning can be situated at Mgbidi Boys Secondary School, Mgbidi, which according to him, has almost all it takes to accommodate an Institution as required under the laws of National University Commission (NUC).

He maintained that the boys secondary school is perfect for the institution as the the proximity, size, structure, location and area where school is positioned is enough to cite a University, Polytechnic, College of Education, Technical College, etc.

According to him, “All basic requirements for a higher Institution is possessed by Mgbidi Boys Secondary School with a Community that is very hospitable and interesting to leave with as host Community;

“Also, the Secondary School is no more using the entire compound for school activities due to lack of students population and academic activities, and hence the need to relocate it to another place in the community, so the space there will be properly utilized for a higher institution of learning, ” Ezerioha stated’.

He further pointed out the need for such step to be taken speedily, saying that the neighbouring communities and Villages are likely to claim parts of the lands belonging to the Secondary School if not acquired by the Government for public purposes.

The Motion gained the support of the lawmakers, and as there was no one against it, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe put it to vote and the Ayes had it.
