The first In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) baby has been delivered at the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri.
The baby boy who was born at about 10 O’clock in the morning on January 2nd 2025 brought joy to the couple and the Management of the hospital when it was having its annual Re-dedication/Thanksgiving Service which is an annual event held on the first working day of every year.
Speaking, the Chief Medical Director, Assoc. Prof. Kingsley Achigbu said that the Management of the hospital conceptualized the idea of having the Assisted Reproductive Services Unit few years ago to assist couples who are experiencing difficulties in having babies the natural way in surmounting such challenges and become proud and happy parents.
According to him two consultants in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department were sent for training on IVF, adding that the arrival of the baby is a dream come true. He pointed out that, the IVF programme is now a regular feature at the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri.
Dr. Achigbu who is an Associate Professor of Paediatrics and Child-health advised other couples who are still having challenges of child birth to cry no more as there is a succour now at the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri.
He urged them to take advantage of the services which is available to fulfill their heart desire of becoming proud parents.
