Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need to align with a political platform that reflects his values and commitment to good governance.
The disclosure was contained in a statement signed by Madumere and dated March 27, 2026, in which he confirmed that his resignation from the APC took effect from March 17, 2026.
In the statement, the former deputy governor said his decision followed extensive consultations with family members, mentors, and political associates, adding that it was driven by conscience and a desire to pursue a more purposeful political path. He noted that politics should remain a platform for service rather than the mere pursuit of titles.
Madumere expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunities he had while in the party, including his tenure as Deputy Governor of Imo State, but maintained that he could no longer remain in a system that, according to him, fails to reward loyalty and often marginalises dedicated members.
He further alleged that the APC had strayed from its founding ideals, making it difficult for him to achieve the objectives that informed his entry into politics over two decades ago, particularly in the areas of good governance and societal development.
Explaining his move to the PDP, Madumere said the party’s ideology and direction align with his political aspirations, describing it as a platform capable of delivering meaningful transformation and progress. He added that his decision was not taken lightly but was necessary to ensure that his political ideals are realised.
He reassured his supporters that the defection was not driven by personal ambition but by a commitment to better representation, transparency, and service delivery. He also pledged to work with like-minded individuals in the PDP to promote unity, youth empowerment, and democratic values.
Madumere thanked his supporters for their continued loyalty and urged them to remain resolute as he begins what he described as a new phase of his political journey aimed at advancing the interests of the people and securing a better future for Imo State.
