President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of a dedicated welfare fund aimed at supporting members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including those injured in active service and families of fallen soldiers.

The disclosure was contained in a State House press statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and dated March 29, 2026.

The initiative, announced to coincide with the President’s 74th birthday, is intended to recognise the courage, sacrifice, and service of military personnel safeguarding the nation’s peace and security.

According to the statement, the President has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account for the fund, which will provide targeted support to wounded service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of personnel who died in the line of duty.

As part of his personal commitment, President Tinubu pledged to contribute all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative, underscoring his resolve to ensure that those who have borne the cost of national security are not neglected.

The President also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the fund, noting that further details regarding its operation will be made public in due course.

Emphasising the importance of the initiative, President Tinubu stated that supporting members of the Armed Forces and their families is not an act of charity but a collective national duty.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the welfare of military personnel and ensuring that their service to the nation is met with dignity, care, and sustained support.
