The awaited free distribution of Exercise Books across Primary Schools in Imo State, which was promised by International businessman and philanthropist, Citizen Akirika Okoro, has commenced.

The initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden of parents and guardians, and to enhance the academic performance of students in schools, offer complementary support to the education policies of the State Government, thereby promoting basic education and learning at the grassroots.

The process commenced with the free distribution of Exercise Books in Public Primary Schools in the State capital, Owerri, on Tuesday, 25/11/2025, and will continue its spread to other Primary Schools in Owerri Federal Constituency, Owerri Zone and across the State. The Second Phase of the initiative will see to the free distribution of School Chalks, Markers and other writing and teaching materials to teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools, while the final Phase will be the free distribution of Exercise Books to Secondary School Students.

So far, Students of Aladinma Housing Estate Primary School, Ikenegbu Layout Primary School, Uzii Layout Primary School, Development Primary School and Township Primary School, all in Owerri, the Imo State capital, have received Exercise Books from the Akirika Okoro Initiative, enough to cover subjects and courses being taught them. This is verifiable.

Students and Teachers of these Primary Schools have expressed gratitude and appreciation to Citizen Akirika Okoro for remembering them at this point in time, noting that it has offered additional support to the State Government’s efforts to Education.

According to the Owerri Nchi-ise born Political Operator, “The motive behind this initiative is to (1) Reduce the financial burden on parents, as it will help to ease economic hardship for several families. (2) Boosting Academic Performance, as the objective is to provide students with the necessary tools for learning and to encourage academic excellence. (3) Investing in the future, for the overall development and growth of the Imo society. (4) As well as providing support to teachers and schools, as it aims to enhance the learning environment. This is a constructive approach to governance, as it offers complementary support to the State Government in sustaining Education in Imo. It is not a replacement for government responsibilities, but as a constructive approach that strengthens the overall system.”

Citizen Akirika Okoro, who is also the Chief Executive Officer Of the Popular Hospitality investment in Imo State, further explained that his commitment to protect and support the credibility and integrity of education in Imo State is non negotiable. In his words, he said, “I will continue to support students and pupils who are desirous to be properly educated. The integrity and credibility of education are built on academic integrity, which requires students to act with honesty, fairness, and responsibility in their learning and research”.

He further maintained that “early foundation in education for children is crucial for ensuring the quality of education, accurate assessment of student’s knowledge, and preparation for professional life”.
