The Okigwe Global Elders Forum (OKGEF), as the leading body championing the collective aspirations of Okigwe Senatorial Zone irrespective of political affiliation, age, gender, or social status met and deliberated on matters of unity, peace and cultural preservation within the zone.

In recognition of the need for renewed harmony and solidarity among its people, OKGEF had prior to the meeting, consulted with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures and various organized groups. All consultations were met with enthusiastic approval and gratitude for the Forum’s initiative.

The General Meeting which was a follow-up to the consultation was well-attended by prominent leaders of the zone, traditional institutions, community leaders, youth/ women organizations and members of OKGEF. The meeting consequently deliberated and arrived at the following resolutions:

  1. Iri Ji/Ahiajoku Okigwe Festival 2025
    The zone shall celebrate the 2025 edition of the Iri Ji/Ahiajoku Okigwe Festival come October 2025 in recognition of its cultural symbolism—fertility, harvest, unity and brotherhood.
  2. Purpose of the Event
    The festival is intended to foster unity, love, peace, oneness and the spirit of obi wuru otu among the people of Okigwe Zone.
  3. Non-Partisan and Inclusivity
    The Assembly emphasized that the festival is non-partisan and committed to inclusivity and the advancement of Odinma Ndi Okigwe Nile across the globe.
  4. Call for Collective Responsibility
    The Assembly resolved that all hands must be on deck to ensure the festival’s success, with the full collaboration of OKGEF, the Traditional Rulers’ Council, political actors, religious leaders and all other stakeholders.
  5. Promotion of Collective Good and Collaboration with other pan-Okigwe groups
    The meeting further concluded that the general good of the zone must override all group, personal or individual interests. In this vein, it was resolved that OKGEF should reach out to other pan-Okigwe groups for inclusivity and common good.
  6. Public Sensitization
    In consideration of the imperative of oneness and common good at this critical point in time, it also had a unanimity for the deliberate sensitization of its people for unity, peace, forgiveness and love.
  7. Appreciation of Stakeholders
    The meeting expressed profound satisfaction over the overwhelming support and encouragement from the zone’s religious leaders, key stakeholders and its people in general, irrespective of political affiliations. In the same vein, it expressed gratitude to Okigwe Diaspora, whose encouragement remains deeply commendable.
  8. 2027 Governorship Aspiration
    In view of the current political realities in our land, the Assembly resolved unanimously and unambiguously that Okigwe zone will seek the office of the Governor of Imo State come 2027. Consequently, it urged all sons and daughters of the zone to join hands and pursue this as a common project and solicits for the support and understanding of their sister zones of Owerri and Orlu.
  9. Voter’s Card
    Furthermore, it was resolved at the meeting that all citizens of the zone of voting age, who do not have Voter’s Card should take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to obtain theirs.
  10. Imo Health Insurance Policy
    With regard to the Health Insurance Policy of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma’s administration in the state, the body urged all sons and daughters of Okigwe to subscribe to the policy. It also called on the well-to-do in the zone to support by subscribing for the poor and indigent.
  11. Commendation of the State Governor
    The zone above all expressed unremitting appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma CON, for his ceaseless love to our people, especially in his notable role and robust support in attracting recently, the Federal University Okigwe and the Federal Medical Center Okigwe, all in the zone. In addition, they commended him for all the ongoing developmental strides in the State through the 3R mantra and Shared Prosperity Government.
    OKGEF assures His Excellency of the continued support of Ndi Okigwe until the completion of his tenure.
