The Greater Imo Initiative (GII), a socio-political advocacy group, has called on Chima Matthew Amadi to desist from what it described as sustained blackmail and false claims targeted at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other respected leaders in Imo State.

The group issued this warning during a world press conference held on Wednesday in Owerri, where it accused Amadi of spreading deliberate falsehoods, engaging in acts of money laundering, and making treasonable claims capable of undermining national security and destabilizing Imo State.

Addressing the media, GII Coordinator, Hon. Ethelbert Nnanna, condemned Amadi’s public conduct and described his actions as “a carefully orchestrated nuisance designed to destabilize Imo State under the guise of political ambition.”

According to Nnanna, Amadi has in recent months paraded himself as a political messiah, distributing large sums of cash—reportedly in tens of millions of naira—across communities and institutions, including university campuses and places of worship. The group claimed these acts were captured in multiple videos showing Amadi allegedly spraying and dancing on Naira notes in violation of financial and currency regulations.

“These actions are not just indiscretions; they are clear breaches of national laws,” Nnanna said. “Under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, such acts attract a minimum of four years imprisonment. Similarly, the abuse of the Naira contravenes the CBN Act of 2007.”

GII called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other security agencies to immediately investigate and prosecute Amadi for alleged financial crimes and currency abuse.

The group also raised alarm over what it termed Amadi’s “treasonable claims,” alleging that he had repeatedly boasted of being an agent of President Tinubu, sent to manipulate political structures in Imo State. GII described the statement as “a direct affront to the unity of Nigeria and an insult to the integrity of the President.”

“President Tinubu is a statesman and a unifying figure within the APC,” the group said. “He has never and will never sponsor the sabotage of his own party.”

Further heightening the controversy, GII accused Amadi of claiming to have printed sensitive election materials ahead of the 2027 governorship elections, allegedly under the guise of being a contractor for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“If these claims are true, it is treason. If they are false, then it is deliberate misinformation meant to discredit INEC and cause public unrest,” Nnanna stated. The group urged the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, and the National Security Adviser to treat the matter as a national security concern.

In a startling twist, the group also linked Amadi to alleged occult affiliations, warning citizens—particularly market women—to be wary of accepting his handouts, which it claimed could be tied to diabolical rituals. GII further alleged that Amadi had renounced Christianity and is not affiliated with any known church, raising additional concerns over the intent behind his activities.

The group also accused federal lawmaker Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere of aiding Amadi’s alleged misconduct. It cited violent incidents allegedly involving thugs loyal to Ugochinyere, GII called on the Imo State Government to reclaim the facility and investigate its alleged conversion into a hideout for criminals.

“No democracy can thrive where political actors sponsor violence, spread falsehoods, and undermine public institutions,” the group declared.

GII further Reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding peace and truth in Imo State and supporting the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma. It urged the people of the state to reject “merchants of chaos and political charlatans” who seek to destabilize the state for personal gain.
