A Declaration of Support for Competent, Compassionate, and Inclusive Leadership

OWERRI, IMO STATE

As Imo State prepares to choose the next custodian of its mandate, we are confronted with a fundamental question: What manner of leadership do we require to secure the future of our dear state?

The answer cannot be found in slogans. It must be found in character. It must be found in antecedents. It must be found in a proven capacity to serve.

After careful reflection and broad consultations across communities, professions, and generations, we hereby declare our support for the gubernatorial aspiration of Chief Charles Orie, the Akuatuegwu I of Ohaji.

A RECORD OF SERVICE BEFORE OFFICE
Leadership is best tested outside the corridors of power. For over a decade, Chief Charles Orie has demonstrated what service means.

Across the 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State, and among Imo communities in the diaspora, his interventions have been consistent and humane. From educational support for indigent students, to empowerment programs for youths and women, to assistance for the elderly and vulnerable, his commitment has been to people, not publicity.

This is leadership defined not by title, but by responsibility. It is leadership that understands that the measure of a society is how it treats its weakest members.

UNDERSTANDING THE IMO PROJECT
Chief Orie is a proud son of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area — a territory that contributes significantly to the national economy yet continues to grapple with developmental challenges.

This background has given him a unique perspective. He understands that resource wealth must translate to human wealth. He understands that development must be deliberate, equitable, and spread across Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe zones without bias.

He understands that our people deserve:

  1. Economic Growth & Job Creation: By leveraging agriculture, SMEs, technology, and public-private partnerships to reduce unemployment.
  2. Infrastructure Renewal: Roads, healthcare facilities, and rural development that connect our communities and ease the cost of living.
  3. Education & Human Capital: Quality, affordable education and skills training to prepare our youths for the future.
  4. Security & Social Welfare: A government that protects lives and property while providing a social safety net for the vulnerable.
  5. Unity & Good Governance: An administration that is transparent, accountable, and inclusive of all interests in Imo State.

WHY CHIEF CHARLES ORIE
Imo State does not need another career politician. Imo needs a leader.

We need a leader with Vision to articulate where we are going.
We need a leader with Competence to manage our commonwealth prudently.
We need a leader with Compassion to feel the pains of the people.
We need a leader with Integrity to restore trust in government.

In Chief Charles Orie, we see these qualities embodied. He has shown that he can give without expecting reward. He has shown that he can build bridges across divides. He has shown that he is prepared for the burden of leadership.

A CALL TO IMO PEOPLE
The choice before us is clear. We can continue with politics as usual, or we can choose a new path — a path of purposeful governance.

We therefore call on:

  • Traditional Rulers and the Clergy to lend their moral voice to this cause
  • Youths and Women who constitute the strength of our state to mobilize for progress
  • Professionals, Business Leaders, and Civil Society to support capacity over rhetoric
  • All Imo Sons and Daughters at Home and Abroad to rally behind this aspiration

The time has come to enthrone leadership that will work for all of us.

CONCLUSION
Imo State is blessed with resources, talent, and resilience. What we require now is leadership that can harness these assets for the common good.

Chief Charles Orie (Akuatuegwu I of Ohaji) represents that leadership.
He represents Leadership Anchored on Vision, Service, and Excellence.

Let us, together, build the Imo State of our dreams.

Signed,
Concerned Citizens of Imo State
For the Advancement of Good Governance in Imo State
