The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, ACSPN, Imo Chapter, alongside the NUJ Imo State Council, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Her Excellency Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, PhD, at Government House, Owerri.

Led by the LOC Chairman of the ACSPN/NUJ 2026 Annual Conference, Dr. Sylvia Eregbu, the delegation invited the Deputy Governor to the association’s forthcoming national conference scheduled for July 23 in Owerri. Dr. Eregbu thanked her for the audience and reaffirmed ACSPN members’ commitment to accurate and professional reportage of news from the state.

Lady Ekomaru described the visit as timely and hailed Imo journalists and communication professionals as “amazing professionals.” She commended their work ethics and prompt, accurate reporting, noting that they have consistently projected the state positively and helped highlight the achievements of the Uzodimma administration.

The Deputy Governor assured ACSPN of her presence at the 2026 national conference and pledged government support. She emphasized the critical role of communication scholars and journalists in nation-building, stating that “there is no government without you” and urging them to sustain professionalism.

The highpoint of the visit was the decoration of Lady Ekomaru with the official cap for the ACSPN/NUJ 2026 National Conference. Also present was the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, who praised the Deputy Governor’s dedication to service, and the Principal Secretary, Mr. John Njoku.
