The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu, has pledged to ensure justice, fairness and firmness in dealing with staff, irrespective of ethnic, religious or local government affiliation.

Prof. Nwachukwu stated this when members of “Abakaliki Women in AE-FUNAI (ABWA)”, the umbrella body of all women of Abakaliki extraction working in the University, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He noted that his focus is not on where a staff member comes from, but on their capacity and competence. He added that he is ready to work with any staff that is passionate and willing to give their best in their respective roles.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the women to take their official responsibilities seriously, respect constituted authorities and other staff, and abide by the extant rules and regulations governing staff in the university.

He maintained that he would be fair to all and firm in his decisions, and stressed the need for staff to see the university as one entity and work together to achieve his vision of making AE-FUNAI a hub of academic and intellectual excellence.

Earlier in her remarks, the President of Abakaliki Women in AE-FUNAI, Princess Uzoamaka Ugama Ali-Ega, said the visit was to congratulate Prof. Nwachukwu on his emergence as the 4th Vice-Chancellor of the university and to pledge the group’s commitment, loyalty and support to his administration in its drive to make AE-FUNAI a hub of academic excellence in Nigeria, Africa and globally.

She explained that Abakaliki Women in AE-FUNAI (ABAWA) is an organization established in 2019, comprising all females of Abakaliki extraction working and earning their livelihood in the university and contributing to its growth and development.

Ali-Ega appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to regard members of the association as critical stakeholders who are ready to collaborate with him in advancing the university. She implored him to identify with “these mothers of the soil, who are also consummate professionals in their respective professions, and see them as stakeholders and partners in stepping down your vision”.

The highlight of the visit was a prayer session conducted in the native dialects of Ezza, Ikwo, Izzi and Ngbolizhia, asking God to grant the Vice-Chancellor wisdom, strength and good health to lead the university to enviable heights among globally-rated institutions.
