The Nigeria Police Force has ramped up security operations in Kaduna State following a deadly attack by armed bandits on Ariko Village near Gurara Dam, which left five persons dead and several others abducted.

According to a statement signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, and dated April 6, 2026, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, directed the immediate deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, to the affected area in response to the incident.

The attack, which occurred on April 5, reportedly targeted worshippers at ECWA and Catholic Churches, where the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately. About fourteen individuals were abducted during the assault, sparking concern among residents and authorities.

In response, a coordinated operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services (DSS) was launched to restore order and rescue the victims.

Security operatives, led by DIG Nadada, have so far succeeded in rescuing seven of the kidnapped victims. The victims were taken to Katari Hospital for medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition, awaiting reunion with their families.

Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could support ongoing operations.
