The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a nationwide усиление of security operations ahead of the Easter celebrations, while extending warm greetings to Christians across Nigeria marking the season.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, on April 3, 2026, in Abuja.

The police chief congratulated the Christian faithful on the observance of Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday, which commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

To ensure a peaceful and secure festive period, the IGP directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders nationwide to implement comprehensive security measures. These include the deployment of tactical units, intelligence operatives, and the Special Intervention Squad to churches, critical infrastructure, and other key locations.

The directive also mandates increased police visibility across highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces to guarantee smooth and hitch-free celebrations during the long Easter weekend.

Additionally, enhanced patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search activities are to be intensified to deter criminal elements and ensure swift response to any emerging threats.

The IGP urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or designated emergency lines.

He further wished all Nigerians a peaceful, safe, and joyous Easter celebration.
