A non-governmental organisation, the Chinenye Owums Foundation, has organised a menstrual health and hygiene awareness programme for students in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
The event, held at Model Secondary School, Umualumaku/Umuihim, brought together students and teachers for education on menstrual wellbeing and self-care.
Facilitators delivered an interactive lecture explaining menstrual cycles, hygiene practices and the importance of breaking social taboos around menstruation.
Female students and teachers received reusable sanitary pads, while instructors demonstrated correct usage and cleaning methods.
Organisers said the reusable products were intended to provide long-term relief for girls who struggle to afford disposable sanitary materials and boost school attendance and confidence among the female students.
In a highlight of the programme, two final-year students were awarded sponsorship for their WAEC and JAMB registration to support their academic future. A Valentine raffle draw was also conducted, creating excitement among participants and encouraging student engagement.
The Foundation presented the school with a motivational billboard carrying affirming messages aimed at boosting confidence and encouraging academic commitment.
Representatives of the group said the outreach was part of efforts to reduce period poverty and promote education among young people.
They added that more communities would benefit from similar initiatives in the coming months.
