In an inspiring act of compassion and service, Senator Osita Izunaso, representing Imo West Senatorial District, marked his 59th birthday with a large-scale humanitarian outreach that brought hope to inmates, persons with disabilities, and residents across Imo State.
As part of the celebration, Senator Izunaso extended his medical outreach to the Owerri Correctional Centre, where he secured the release of 20 inmates by paying their fines. Most of the freed individuals had been held for minor offences but were unable to afford their court-imposed penalties.
The event also featured the distribution of vehicles, sewing machines, grinding machines, wheelchairs, gas cylinders, and other empowerment tools, touching thousands of lives across the state.
The outreach coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Kpakpando Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, a humanitarian organization founded by Senator Izunaso to promote inclusion and empower persons living with disabilities across Nigeria.
Speaking during the event, the Senator emphasized the importance of offering “redemption, not rejection” to those who have erred, noting that correctional centres should serve as places of rehabilitation and reintegration rather than permanent condemnation.
He further announced plans to equip the freed inmates with vocational skills under the next phase of the Kpakpando Foundation’s empowerment program, to help them rebuild their lives with dignity and productivity.
Beneficiaries and observers hailed Izunaso’s continued commitment to humanitarian issues, lauding his two decades of consistent service through the Kpakpando Foundation in healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.
Izunaso’s 59th birthday celebration, according to Imolites, stood out as a festival of hope and humanity, reaffirming his belief that leadership is best measured by the lives touched and transformed, not by titles or tenures.
