A fresh wave of political realignment is sweeping through Imo State as leading governorship hopeful, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, steps up moves to unite coalition forces across party lines under the banner of the Action Peoples Party (APP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Insiders described the development as a deliberate effort to build a formidable alternative as one of the boldest opposition strategies to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Working through his political structure The Mazi Organization, (TMO)and other strategic fronts, Dr. Amadi has reportedly commenced high-level consultations with stakeholders, lawmakers, and civic groups across the State.
Speaking in Owerri, the Director-General of TMO Chief Henry Onwukwe, an ally and confidant of the Dr. Amadi, described the unfolding movement as “a revolution of minds and purpose.”
“The APP is not just another political regrouping,” Onwukwe declared.
“It is a people-driven movement built on integrity, structure and grassroots appeal. In Dr. Chima Amadi, Imo has found a fearless, vocal and prepared leader ready to lead from the front. And the time has come to reclaim our state and return governance to the people.”
According to the former Sole Administrator of Owerri West Local Government Area, the coalition talks are already attracting lawmakers, youth movements and civic bodies disenchanted by what he called the “lack of direction and politics of exclusion and betrayal” that has dominated the state in recent years.
According to investigation by this newspaper, the APP’s grassroots networks are swelling across the 27 Local Government Areas with new entrants, including past and serving legislators quietly holding talks with the party, to political and community leaders and professionals looking for a credible platform free from litigations, leadership crisis and selfish political godfatherism.
Political observers note that the momentum has begun to unsettle both the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), each now struggling to contain internal discontent and prevent possible defections.
“I can tell you for free that what Dr. Chima Amadi is building is beyond party,” said Chief Emma Bukar, a former chieftain of the APC who has joined the coalition APP. “It is a convergence of a coalition of patriots, powered by trust, vision and inclusiveness.”
Chief Onwukwe reaffirmed that the APP’s mission is to restore the dignity of governance, dismantle the old order of patronage politics and empower the people to reclaim ownership of their state.
“This is the dawn of a new political conscience,” he stressed. “We are building a people’s platform that is rooted in transparency, accountability and service. The APP will be the bridge between broken promises and a brighter Imo. And I am.haooy to reveal that we have made major inroads with the stakeholders’ engagement. The results will manifest very soon”, he boasted.
As 2027 draws closer, the permutations are multiplying and the political map of Imo is being redrawn. What began as a modest mobilization is fast transforming into a formidable coalition that may well define the state’s next chapter.
