The Abia State Government has issued a warning to former Commissioner for Information, Mr. John Okiyi Kalu, over what it described as a “desperate attempt” to create discord between Governor Alex Otti and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the government said it became aware of an alleged social media publication purportedly showing Mr. Okiyi Kalu instructing his “data boys” and “e-rats” in a private online group named War Room to launch a smear campaign against Governor Otti.
The statement accused opposition figures in Abia State of engaging in “reckless desperation” aimed at destabilizing the State and the South-East region at large. It further described their actions as evidence of “a lack of ideas and inability to articulate a credible alternative vision” for the State’s development.
According to the release, the Abia Government reaffirmed Governor Otti’s commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with President Tinubu, stressing that the administration remains focused on delivering progress and prosperity to Abia people.
Governor Otti also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued support, particularly for approving key infrastructure initiatives such as the State’s intervention in federal road rehabilitation projects and the planned upgrade of an airstrip to a full-fledged airport.
The statement concluded with a warning to opposition figures, including Mr. Okiyi Kalu, to desist from actions aimed at sowing political division, urging Abia residents to remain vigilant and reject “toxic politics.”
