.Postpones all events in the clan in honour of late traditional ruler
The apex socio-cultural body of the Ugiri Clan, Ezumezu Ugiri, held a well-attended general meeting on Saturday, October 18, 2025, which brought together members of the Ezumezu Executive Council and the Ezumezu Community Coordinators to deliberate on key matters affecting the Ugiri people.
During the meeting, the leadership of Ezumezu Ugiri, ably led by Hon. Chief Ezenna Nnanyereugo Okoro, in consultation with Ndieze Ugiri (the council of traditional rulers of Ezumezu Ugiri), reached significant resolutions regarding all upcoming Ezumezu Ugiri–related events and activities.
In respect of the demise of one of the revered traditional rulers of Ugiri Clan, His Royal Highness Eze Okoroike of Ibeme Ancient Kingdom, the body in conjunction with NDI Eze Ugiri ably chaired by HRM Eze Joseph Ike, Ekeshi Mgbaja IV of Umuneke Ugiri. unanimously resolved that all Ezumezu Ugiri events, including the annual Iriji Festival of the Ugiri Clan, be postponed until next year. This decision, endorsed by the Ndieze Ugiri, was taken to honour the departed monarch and uphold the cultural value of respect for traditional authority.
Furthermore, Ezumezu Ugiri officials and coordinators conducted an inspection of the ongoing Ezumezu Ugiri Clan Hall construction project. Following the inspection, the leadership formally assumed full responsibility for the supervision and continuation of the hall’s construction, reaffirming Ezumezu Ugiri’s commitment to completing the project as a central and unifying landmark for the entire Ugiri Clan.
In the same meeting, Ezumezu Ugiri mandated that all contributions, donations, or support toward the construction of the Ezumezu Ugiri Hall must pass solely through the Ezumezu Ugiri leadership. This directive aims to ensure proper coordination, accountability, and transparency in the management of all funds and resources.
The leadership also appreciated other groups and individuals who had previously made efforts or contributions toward the hall project, acknowledging their commitment to the clan’s development. However, to foster greater unity and transparency, all future fundraising, planning, and construction activities are to be handled exclusively under the direct supervision of Ezumezu Ugiri.
As part of the meeting’s resolutions, Ezumezu Ugiri formed two key committees to enhance coordination and oversight:
Planning Committee: Chaired by the Vice President of Ezumezu Ugiri, Hon. Julius Asagwara, with Chief Theo Duru as Vice Chairman and Dr. Nat Obioha as secretary Other members include Chief Nma Achonu, Hon. Jeff Anyaku, and Dr. Vitalis Ugwukwu.
Project Committee: Chaired by Engr. Adol Anyanwu, with Hon. Engr. Solomon Anozie as Vice Chairman, And Dr Vitalis Ugwukwu as Secretary. Members of the committee include Hon. Julius Asagwara, Chief Chris Uche Okoro, High Chief Mahakwe Nwigwe and Comrade Anayo Nwachukwu.
In conclusion, the leadership emphasized the principles of unity, transparency, and accountability, assuring members that all fundraising efforts and construction activities related to the Ezumezu Ugiri Hall will be conducted in a fully open and transparent manner. They reaffirmed their pledge to ensure that every action taken reflects fairness, honesty, and collective trust—for the continued peace, progress, and unity of the Ugiri Clan.
