The website of the Action Peoples Party (APP) crashed on Tuesday evening following an unprecedented surge in membership registration that began shortly after Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, leading 2027 Imo governorship aspirant officially unveiled the party as his political platform for the 2027 Imo State governorship election.

According to party officials, the website went offline for several hours as thousands of supporters attempted to sign up simultaneously, overwhelming the party’s servers.

“We anticipated high interest, but the traffic we saw in just a few days was beyond anything we had projected,” a member of APP’s digital team who pleased anonymity told reporters. “Our engineers are working to expand capacity and ensure everyone can complete their registration.”

The crash underscored the groundswell of enthusiasm surrounding Amadi’s entry into the governorship race.

As the founder of The Mazi Organization (TMO), a grassroots movement that has, over the past three years, grown into a formidable political force across Imo State, Dr. Amadi has cultivated a loyal base that cuts across demographics, from young professionals and students to market women, artisans and traditional leaders.

TMO’s sustained grassroots presence, marked by town hall meetings, empowerment initiatives, and community development campaigns, appears to have translated directly into the surge witnessed on Tuesday.

Many analysts believe the rush to join APP is less about party loyalty and more a reflection of the organic movement Amadi has built as the credible alternative of the opposition coalition in the state.

“This is a signal that a movement which started quietly in the streets, markets, and town halls of Imo is now entering the formal political space with force”, said, Chief Mark Ukanwa, a political commentator in Owerri.

Dr. Amadi, known for his advocacy on governance reform and people-driven leadership, officially hinted APP as his vehicle to contest the 2027 election earlier in the week. This development has already set off ripples across the state’s political landscape, with observers describing it as a “game-changer” ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.

By late Tuesday night, APP’s media team confirmed that efforts were underway to restore the site and improve its capacity to handle the influx of new members.

If the scenes of Tuesday evening are anything to go by, the road to 2027 may have just been redrawn by an organic movement whose time, many believe, has come.
