—LABELS PRESS STATEMENT A MISGUIDED ATTEMPT TO SCORE CHEAP POLITICAL POINTS AND A DANGEROUS POLITICIZATION OF A SERIOUS SECURITY ISSUE

The Honourable Member representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Obinna Egu, Ph.D., has issued a stern rebuke of the recent press statement by The Mazi Organization (TMO), which on September 14, 2025, demanded the resignation of Governor Hope Uzodimma following the kidnapping of a former Chairman of Okigwe L.G.A, Hon. Ngozi Ogbu.

In an exclusive media chat, Hon. Egu denounced TMO’s call as a reckless and simplistic approach to a complex security challenge. He emphasized that the statement conveniently ignores the sustained efforts of the Imo State government and security agencies in Imo State in combating the scourge of insecurity and banditry.

The lawmaker detailed the Governor Uzodimma administration’s robust security initiatives, including strategic security deployments, provision of new operational vehicles, and intelligence-led operations. “These efforts have yielded significant results, and it is crucial to build upon these successes rather than dismissing them with politically motivated rhetoric,” Egu stated. He maintained that TMO’s press statement brazenly ignores these tangible efforts in favor of a blanket and unconstructive condemnation.

While affirming that the kidnapping of Hon. Ogbu is a grave incident requiring urgent resolution, Egu accused TMO of exploiting the tragedy. “TMO’s approach is not only insensitive but dangerously politicized. Using a citizen’s ordeal to score political points is the height of negligence,” he declared.

He firmly asserted that the demand for Governor Uzodimma’s resignation is premature, unjustified, and an affront to reasoned governance. Governance is a complex undertaking that demands patience, understanding, and cooperative problem-solving. Leaders must be evaluated on their overall performance and unwavering commitment to their citizens’ welfare, not on isolated incidents cynically leveraged by opponents.

Egu categorically dismissed TMO’s claim that the Uzodimma administration has failed to prioritize citizen safety as baseless and entirely devoid of evidence. He pointed to the government’s significant investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education as demonstrable proof of its holistic commitment to public welfare, which includes security.

Furthermore, Rt. Hon. Egu argued that TMO’s statement myopically ignores the broader context of a global insecurity crisis. “To single out Imo State without acknowledging this universal challenge is profoundly dishonest. The whole of South East and Nigeria generally are grappling with severe security threats, including violent crime, terrorism, and organized criminality. This does not excuse the situation at home, but it frames it within a realistic context that TMO willfully neglects.”

In conclusion, Dr. Egu stated, TMO’s press statement is a misguided attempt to politicize a serious security issue. Instead of working collaboratively with the government to find lasting solutions, TMO has chosen a confrontational and inflammatory path that benefits no one—least of all the people of Imo State.

He insisted that Imo citizens deserve a responsible opposition focused on constructive engagements. Now is the time for all stakeholders to unite against the common threat of insecurity, not to retreat into divisive rhetoric and unproductive calls for resignation.
He urged TMO to abandon this reckless course and join in the serious work of securing our state.
