Her Excellency, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, PhD, Deputy Governor of Imo State, has urged women to prioritise their homes as the foundation of true success. She gave the charge during the grand finale of the Mbaitoli Women’s August Meeting, held on Thursday at the LGA headquarters, Nwaorieubi.

Lady Ekomaru reminded women that their first responsibility is to their families, stressing that true greatness begins with building a strong and peaceful home, citing example with her own relationship with her husband and family, which according to her, was the key factor that prepared her for her current position and has been the invaluable factor propelling her.

“The very first call as a woman is your home. To be a woman and achieve greatness, you must set an example for yourself and family.

“My relationship with my husband and my family prepared me in no small measure, for this position I am occupying today.

“Wherever you find yourself, keep your hands clean, work hard and make the best of every situation, knowing that you have a family looking up to you,” she said.

She commended Mbaitoli women for their unity and commitment to supporting the state government and also praised their dedication to their families, raising godly children, which she noted, has contributed to the relative peace in the local government area.

The Deputy Governor further encouraged the women to continue supporting the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, highlighting the role of the First Lady, Her Excellency Chief (Barr). Chioma Uzodimma, in championing policies that promote the welfare of women and children across the state.

Earlier, the wife of the Mbaitoli Council Chairman, Lady Gertrude Nwanegwo, echoed the theme of the 2025 August Meeting, “Umu Nwanyi Órú umUkwu” (Women of Great Deeds). She expressed gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, and other leaders of repute for their continued support of the women in the area.

In his remarks, the Mbaitoli Council Chairman, Hon. Ifunanya Nwanegwo, described women as the pillars of every society and thanked Governor Uzodimma for his unwavering support for the development of the area and the women.

Also speaking, the member representing Mbaitoli in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, urged the women to sustain their support for peace and progress, emphasizing that no society can thrive without encouraging the growth of women.

The occasion, which attracted dignitaries from all walks of life including Chief Barr. Marcon Nlemigbo, featured dancing, singing, march-past and the cutting of the August Meeting cake.
