…Unveils Uniform, Constitution

A Professor of Sociology and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Imo State University, Owerri, Professor Agnes Osita-Njoku, has admonished parents to inculcate ethical family values into their children while embracing the realities of our changing world.
She made this call, at the maiden August meeting of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University Women Association (KOMUWA), which held on Wednesday August 27, 2025, at the University’s Senate Building.
The President of the Association, Dr. Mrs. C. P. Dozie, who doubles as the University Orator and Director, Centre for Gender and Development Studies, in her address, expressed delight with the possibilities of the event, insisting, the “gathering marks a significant milestone in our journey as a community”.
Applauding members for their passion and dedication in coming together, she promised, the year’s August meeting will dwell on the importance of instilling appropriate family “values and principles into our children, as they navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world”.
Recognizing, the association’s vital role, as women, in shaping the next generation and fostering a supportive environment for families to thrive. The Association’s President, said the August meeting themed: “Children First: Restoring Family Values in a Changing World”, was a timely reminder.
Speaking on the meeting theme; the Guest Speaker, Professor Njoku, recognized children as God’s gifts and their training begins from home yet maintained that societal pressure has made the task of training them very challenging.
Admitted that technological advancements such as phones and computers are good but advised it should not be allowed to steal our ethical family values. She maintained new day style of parenting has caused unsettled homes and families with dire consequences ranging from divorce to separations.
She identified indecent dressings, smoking, hard drugs intake, disrespectfulness among others as unethical family values prevalent among the present generation of children.
She therefore, enjoined parents to redirect their ways on training children, advising fathers in particular, to assume the headship of their families and desist from replacing their required attention on children with money.
She further advised parents, to dedicate time for activities and create rules that build strong bonds and lasting memories in the family.
The high-point of the event, was the unveiling of the KOMUWA Uniform and Constitution, performed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ikechukwu I. N. Dozie, who doubled as the Chief host.
The Vice Chancellor, had earlier, in his opening remarks, encouraged KOMU women to identify with the Association. He recognized KOMUWA as a driving force in the University and urged them to play more positive role in the advancement of the University to greater heights.
He eulogized the President of KOMUWA on her sterling leadership qualities, congratulating her on birthday celebration which coincided with August meeting date.
The KOMU students dancers thrilled the audience with their beautiful and unique dancing steps to honour the University women.
The Kingsley Ozumba (KO) Mbadiwe University Women Association (KOMUWA) members who were colourfully dressed in bright deep-blue wrapper and matching headgear with white lace blouse, had their beauties radiating the University atmosphere, especially during the day’s road-walk to mark the event.
The event paraded a large turnout of very important persons including the University staff and students who came in support and solidarity with KOMUWA, prominent among them were the Royal fathers from the host communities; HRH Eze U.C.E Onuoha of Obiohia and HRH Eze U. E. Ajaraogu of Ogwume, the Chairman of the occasion; Prof. J. C. Igwe, the Chief Launcher, Prof. A. C. Onyeka, others are Prof Dan Njoku, Rev Fr. Dr. Uzoma Okwara, Dr. Juliet Ekwugha (University Registrar), Dr. Ngozi Nwaohiri (Librarian), Dr. Aletta (Students Affairs), Heads of Departments, Deans of Faculties among others.
