In what many observers have described as a major political statement ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Imo State, thousands of women drawn from the 305 wards across the 27 local government areas of the state have unanimously endorsed Dr. Chima Amadi as their sole candidate for the governorship.

The endorsement was made on Wednesday at the 2025 Imo Women Town Hall Meeting, held in Owerri, which also marked the grand finale of the annual August Meeting.

The women, who came in large numbers, highlighted Amadi’s longstanding humanitarian interventions, empowerment programs, and visible support to families across the state as the basis for their decision.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Dr. Mrs. Uche Obi and Dr. Mrs. Biniana Onwuchuruba, Mrs..Maureen Oparaji, among other speakers described Amadi as “a man of uncommon vision and compassion” whose policies, if elected, would transform the fortunes of women, youths, and the vulnerable in Imo State.

They called on Imo people to support his ambition with prayers, noting that his emergence as governor would mark a new dawn of inclusive governance in the state.

Responding to the endorsement, Dr. Chima Amadi expressed deep gratitude to the women for their overwhelming show of support. He reassured them of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and empowerment, promising to prioritize programs that would strengthen women’s economic independence, tackle youth unemployment, and promote grassroots development.

Amadi also lamented the current plight of women and youths in the state, particularly in the face of what he described as “humongous allocations” accruing to both the local governments and the state without visible impact on the people.

The women, while pledging their continued support, urged the electorate across Imo to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that their collective voice at the polls would determine the future of the state.

The highpoint of the town hall meeting was Amadi’s formal acceptance of the endorsement, which was greeted with thunderous applause, prayers, and solidarity songs from the enthusiastic crowd of women.
