Nzuko Owere General Assembly convened a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Mayfair Suites and Conference Center, Owerri. The gathering aimed to sensitize and affirm Owerri zone’s resolute position on the imperative of producing a governor of Owerri zone extraction for Imo state in 2028.

Purpose and Attendance
The meeting drew a large turnout, underscoring the hunger for the position. Despite belonging to different political camps, members united on the common purpose of supporting a governor from Owerri zone for the next gubernatorial term.

Key Resolutions

  1. Commendation of Governor Hope Uzodinma: The stakeholders commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for his numerous interventions in key sectors of development and for restoring peace and security in the state. They acknowledged that without peace and security, the 2028 election would be challenging.
  2. Appreciation for the Imo Charter of Equity: The stakeholders expressed deep appreciation to the governor for affirming the Imo Charter of Equity proposed by the Elders Council. They believe the Charter is the most credible route to mitigating tensions over gubernatorial contests and unnecessary waste of resources during election cycles.
  3. Affirmation of Owerri Zone’s Rightful Claim: The stakeholders strongly affirmed that Owerri zone is the rightful bloc to succeed Governor Uzodinma and appealed to all political parties in the state to offer their tickets to candidates of Owerri extraction.
  4. Engagement with Other Zones: There was a consensus among stakeholders to engage other zones (Okigwe and Orlu) in constructive dialogue and clear agreement on power sharing, ensuring all blocs participate in governance and benefits under a governor of Owerri zone extraction.

Call to Action

  • Unifying Under a Common Body: All interest groups in Owerri zone are mandated to commence a process of uniting under a common body as an apex structure. This body will comprise representatives from each group who will make decisions passed down to the different bodies for information and implementation.
  • Qualities of a Candidate: The stakeholders emphasized that Owerri must produce and support not just any candidate, but a candidate with an unassailable pedigree, knowledge of the state’s problems, and the capacity to make a positive difference in governance.
  • Civil Process: While affirming Owerri’s aspiration for the governorship, the stakeholders urged all eligible and interested indigenes of the zone to pursue their ambitions without animosity or intention to avenge perceived slights.

Conclusion
The stakeholders commended the organizers for a successful event and called for more frequent gatherings to sensitize the general public. They warned against unserious persons seeking to exploit the process for personal gain and stressed the need for a united, informed, and principled approach to achieving their goal.
