The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Elom, has commended the French Government for their commitment to environmental sustainability in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor gave the commendation during the presentation of two big tricycle trucks provided by the French Embassy Fund for combating plastic waste and pollution in the university
Recall that as part of the initiative of the French Embassy in Nigeria, to promote environmental sustainability and responsible plastic waste management on campuses in Nigeria, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, was among the five tertiary institutions in Nigeria that benefited from the French Embassy Fund worth Fifty Thousand Euros (₤50, 000).
The university had earlier, taken delivery of 130 big plastic waste bins which have been installed around the campus to combat plastic pollution and promote safer environment on campus.
Presenting the two tricycle trucks to the Vice-Chancellor, the Coordinator of the project, Prof. Robert Onyeneke noted that the tricycles would be used to collect and convey waste from the waste collection bins to the conversion site for proper processing.
He appreciated the embassy of France in Nigeria for supporting and funding the project, adding that their commitment to environmental sustainability in Nigeria is commendable.
While receiving the trucks, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sunday Elom, stated that the university remains grateful to the members of the project team for making themselves available for the partnership, adding that the project is progressing.
He extends his deep appreciation to the French embassy for finding the university worthy for the initiative and for their deep commitment to environmental sustainability in Nigeria, especially in the campuses, stressing that the tricycle trucks will be very key in waste collection and disposal as well as in other operational areas.
He further enjoined the project team to hasten up with the expected materials needed to kick-start the project to ensure that the deliverables were met on schedule.
