The Managing Director of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), Chief Austin Onyedebelu has today, received a delegation from the National Association of Oguta, Oru-East, and Ohaji-Egbema IMSU Law Students, led by Kyrian Chima Uchenna. The delegation arrived to extend their congratulations on the recent appointment of the MD and to express their gratitude to Governor for finding the MD worthy of the position.
During the meeting, Chief Onyedebelu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to an open-door policy, recognizing the students’ concerns and challenges. He stated:
“ISOPADEC has undergone significant transformations, and while we continue to progress, we remain deeply empathetic to your needs. His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma, is a leader with a big heart who prioritizes education and the welfare of students in the state.”
Further emphasizing the Governor’s vision, Dr. Mrs. Nina Nwulu, Commissioner of Education in the ISOPADEC board, reiterated that Governor Uzodinma is a strong advocate for education and is focused on enhancing the sector to benefit the people of the state.
Nwulu commended the Students for their academic pursuits, especially given the difficult circumstances many of them face. “I commend you for finding grace in your academics to pursue law, rather than being drawn into restiveness. Education is a powerful tool, and it is clear that you are using it to build a brighter future for yourselves and your communities.”
Speaking earlier, on behalf of the students, Kyrian Chima Uchenna expressed gratitude for the MD’s leadership and highlighted the pressing challenges law students face, particularly those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. He appealed for support in addressing transportation difficulties and requested the reinstatement of bursary payments for students from oil-producing communities to ease their financial burdens.
The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from ISOPADEC to support the education and welfare of students from the Oil-producing communities in the State, ensuring that their concerns are addressed as part of the Commission’s broader goals for development.
