*Poised to pursue Mbakwe’s Legacy

The Political climate of Imo State is about to change ahead 2027 general Elections following the emergence of a New Political Pressure Group, named “Okigwe First Movement”.
At first, it was thought to be one of those political rumors in town, until it became a reality.
Journalists had tried following the rumour so as to pry into development but never succeeded because of the secrecy the information was guarded until Saturday, February 21st.
That day, nearly all the Practical Politicians and Election winners in Okigwe Zone who had made possible all election victories in the Zone in the past converged under one roof.
Sighted at the venue include Nze S O D Onuoha,Sir George Eguh, Rt Hon Ike C Ibe,Hon Stanley Nzekwe,Hon Ebere Osuji, Hon Cyprian Emedom,Hon Ngobiwu and others.
The gathering of these veterans and Election battle-tested Politicians had just one purpose:which was the Inauguration of what they called ‘Okigwe First Movement”.
Present were past Elected and Appointed Political Personalities of all levels in Academics, Business, Bureaucrats and Technocrats, young and old from the Six Local Government Areas of Okigwe Zone.
They Brainstormed in the meeting that lasted from 10 am to about 4 pm, setting up parameters and taking wide and far reaching decisions about their new vision for Okigwe Zone.
Inside sources from the Meeting confirmed that these Grassroots Politicians spoke individually and declared they will liberate Okigwe Zone from Self centered and Transactional Leaders who have only their personal and family interests as against the interest of the entire Okigwe Zone.
The “Okigwe First Movement” Leaders rekindled the spirit of their late Political icon and selfless Leader,Late Governor Sam Onunaka Mbakwe who they said was selfless and ran a very impactful Government across the old Imo State and Okigwe Zone in particular.
These Okigwe First Promoters vowed not to allow “Business as usual” syndrome, but will only support selfless Okigwe People for any political position from Ward, Councilors to Governor.
They maintained that now is about Okigwe First and nothing more.
They regretted that about 42 years after Mbakwe left the scene, no office holder has emulated or improved on his developmental strides, but rather left all he toiled and left behind to rot away.
The Okigwe First Movement paid tribute to Governor Hope Uzodinma for constructing two major roads in Okigwe Zone (Owerri-Okigwe, and Owerri-Obowu roads) which they agreed is impacting the lives of Okigwe People positively after more than 42 years of abject neglect.
It was gathered that the Group will partner with other Zones in Imo State in pursuit of recreating the Ideals of Sam Mbakwe, who treated and developed Imo as one State and entity. While there was no public press statement or Communique released after the meeting, Journalists are keen to unravel the resolutions reached at the meeting by observing with serious interest on this new development that could shatter all 2027 permutations across the State and possibly change the entire political landscape.
