The media practitioners from the Mbano bloc (Isiala and Ehime-Mbano local governments respectively) on the platform of Mbano Journalists Association (MJA) have commended the Executive Chairman of Isiala Mbano Local Government, Hon Evang Chika Israel Okoroike, for the ongoing construction work at the Nkwombaa erosion site which had threatened to cut the road there into two.
The association gave the commendation at the council headquarters, Umuelemai, on Tuesday, when they paid Okoroike a courtesy call at his office.
The media practitioners also commended him for his “Back to Farm Initiative” in the council to boost agriculture in the area.
Explaining the reason for their visit, the chairman of MJA, Edison Okereke, said, “We’re here to congratulate you on your emergence as the Executive Chairman, acquaint you of our activities, and commend you for the ongoing project at Nkwombaa.”
While appreciating the council leader, Okereke urged him not to relent in his good work.
Reacting, Evang Okoroike noted that the Nkwombaa gully erosion was a menace which presented itself as an insult and had to be tackled.
He said, “As a matter of development, Nkwombaa is an issue that was presenting a menace and an insult to the government. But I got strengthened to face it squarely through the help of my Governor, distinguished Senator Dr Hope Uzodimma, CON, who enabled me.”
The Chairman also pointed at the secretariat, at the roofing stage, which his administration was building, adding that another project dear to his heart is agriculture, through the instrumentality of back to farm initiative.”
“We have ‘Our Back to Farm Initiative.’ It is very, very interesting to bring agriculture into our planning, because the most viable and available is means of economic simulation, agriculture as diversification.”
He urged everybody to cue into agriculture, including journalists, even as he expressed his willingness to partner with members of the MJA to move the Local Government forward.
He enumerated other projects, including boreholes which he noted were side attractions in the area.
He thanked his visitors for coming.
